Application of Typical Working Conditions
As shown in the figure on the left, in accordance with ASME B31.1 Power Boilers and Piping guidelines, the intermittent drain valves are typically employed in Zone 2 and are strategically installed directly within the boiler or its associated piping. Additionally, there are continuous drain valves, alongside traps and safety valves, etc., as part of the system.
According to §122.1.4 of ASME B31.1 Power Boilers and Piping, the piping is commonly equipped with two valves in series, comprising a Y-type intermittent drain valve along with an emergency stop valve for enhanced safety.
The intermittent drain valve is designed with a lever type rapid discharge mechanism, which facilitates swift opening and closing functionality. Upon activation, the valve ensures quick expulsion of sediment, debris, and other particulates from the boiler's base, typically within 3 seconds. Excessive discharge duration can lead to substantial water loss, resulting in resource wastage. The flow path closely resembles a straight pipeline configuration.
The emergency stop valve is crucial for achieving an airtight closure of the pipeline, effectively preventing resource wastage in the event of intermittent drain valve malfunction.
