As shown in the figure on the left, according to ASME B31.1 Power Boilers and Piping, intermittent drain valves are most commonly utilized in Zone 2, where they are seamlessly integrated into the boiler or boiler piping. There are also continuous drain valves, traps, and safety valves, etc., designed to enhance system reliability and safety.
According to §122.1.4 of ASME B31.1 Power Boilers and Piping, the piping is typically equipped with a sequential arrangement of 2 valves: a Y-type intermittent drain valve paired with an emergency stop valve for maximum efficiency and safety.
The intermittent drain valve often features a lever-type rapid discharge mechanism, fostering swift opening and closing actions. When the valve is engaged, it allows for the quick expulsion of sediment, debris, and other particulates from the boiler's base within a swift 3 seconds.
